How to Wash a Pet Bed Without Ruining It

Pet beds collect hair, dust and everyday smells. A regular wash keeps them comfortable, and most can be cleaned at home.

Start with the care label

Always check the manufacturer's care instructions first. Many covers are machine washable, while thicker fillings may need spot cleaning or a gentle cycle.

A simple wash routine

  • Shake or vacuum off loose hair before washing.
  • Wash on a gentle cycle with mild, fragrance-free detergent.
  • Skip fabric softener; strong scents can bother some pets.
  • Rinse twice if your pet has sensitive skin.

Drying matters

Air dry or tumble on low heat. Make sure the bed is completely dry before your pet uses it, especially the filling, to avoid musty smells.

Wash every one to two weeks if your pet sheds a lot, and use a washable blanket on top between deep cleans.
