Nail Care Tips for Nervous Pets
Share
Many pets dislike nail trims. A slow, patient approach helps both of you stay relaxed.
Get comfortable first
Spend a few days simply touching your pet's paws and rewarding calm behavior. Let them sniff the tool and see that nothing bad happens.
Trim safely
- Work in good light so you can see the nail clearly.
- Trim small amounts at a time and stay away from the pink quick in light nails.
- Keep styptic powder on hand just in case.
- Stop and try again later if your pet becomes upset.
Ask for help when needed
Groomers and veterinary staff can show you the right technique. If you are unsure, ask them to demonstrate.
